Numbers beginning with 08 are very popular among companies and can be seen everywhere! While 0800 numbers are free from landlines, not all other numbers beginning with 08 are free from all phone service providers. For example, 0845 numbers are now included in toll free numbers from a BT landline, but not necessarily from other services. A UK 0844 number is not free but is also quite popular among companies. 0844 numbers are non geographical numbers. They can be set up on any existing number, and can be diverted to any other number you like. This can also be an overseas number. 0800 numbers are usually used to attract new customers and encourage people to call, but 0844 numbers provide a good option for companies while providing phone based services. In fact, many companies prefer using 0844 numbers for any additional services they might be offering. These numbers cost more than local calls and part of the call cost sometimes also goes to the company that sets it up. For example, technical help lines etc. are usually 0844 numbers as they can generate some revenue for the company through the customers’ call charge. This revenue can be used towards the service being provided.
